Another Sunny Day
May 23, 2025
The sun’s finally back out here in Minneapolis. My garden is growing. Beans are sprouting! I’m so excited for the beans, I hope they do well.
I had today off work, so I decided to trek up to my favorite thrift store. It’s about 30 miles north of me. Not too far, but I rarely venture up there. There’s a Goodwill near my favorite spot, so I popped in there too.
I almost never look at the clothes in thrift stores anymore. My heart just isn’t in it when it comes to searching the racks most of the time. That, and most of the big chains have removed the changing rooms since COVID. I don’t love publicly trying on clothes, so I usually skip it.
My heart was in it today, though. And my favorite spot does have changing rooms. I tried on a bunch of stuff and bought several new pieces, including a wild bodycon fish dress.
I’m not sure if I will actually brave wearing it out, but I like it and it was $4 so I bought it. It’s an even more ridiculous version of the Lazy Oaf fish tank top that I bought instantly upon seeing and now wear any chance I get.
Also had decent luck at Goodwill and got a couple of tops. I’m experimenting with my wardrobe a lot lately, so it’s nice to be able to get things a bit cheaper. Here’s my little clothing haul if you’re interested:
Between both thrift spots, I also grabbed a couple of home items: a needlepoint table runner, a needlepoint pillowcase, and a couple of cute bowls. I’m trying to give my dining room a colorful cottagey type vibe, and I hope these will fit in.
I snapped a photo of the VHS section for my husband, who collects them. He picked out Wild Wild West, Shanghai Noon, and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Honestly surprised the Pirates movie is available on VHS. In my mind, it came out on DVD only (I got it for Christmas that year!).
After all that I grabbed a lunch and continued back south to a new-to-me vintage shop. It was recommended to me by garfriend here on Neocities, and it did not disappoint.
They had lots of fun clothes, but I ended up picking out a few accessories instead. I’d gotten a pair of earrings and a necklace at the thrift stores, so it ended up being a nice little haul:
A few of these items, I’ll probably put up for gift-giving. For holidays, a couple of my friends always get little goodie bags of trinkets I pick up for them throughout the year.
All in all, this was a really fun - and much needed - day. Work has been stressing me the fuck out lately, so it was good to get out in the world on my own. I feel a little bit closer to being a person again!
