Stuff This Week

March 2, 2025

Here’s a list of stuff I found interesting around the internet this past week:
  • Bath Maniac Blog for Bath Lovers - This is ridiculous, but I was researching Hungarian baths for work, and I came across this blog. The actual content is whatever - it’s just about baths. The real reason I am posting about this is because I love the title and the below graphic for it. Design inspiration for us all:

  • National School Gardening League - From the r/solarpunk subreddit, an idea for a gardening competition in schools.

  • Knitting as Dissent: Female Resistance in America Since the Revolutionary War - This is from 2012, but I thought it was a fascinating introduction to the history of knitting as a form of resistance. There are many other materials cited that I would like to read as well.

  • Punch Needle Embroideries by Adrienna Matzeg - Totally out of my budget, but I love this art.

  • ICE Arrests - There have been several ICE raids in Minnesota cities - and in other cities across the country - lately.

Here is some good information about what to do if you or someone you know is detained.

If you want to help, you might consider donating to the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, or to your local immigrant law organization.

Also, don’t be a bootlicker and don’t be a snitch.

  • Chop Wood, Carry Water - This Substack newsletter is giving me a little bit of hope in this moment of alarm.

  • Ski Warfare - Did you know that many nations train troops in ski warfare? I don’t think this is that surprising. But at the same time, wouldn’t it be very surprising if you turned on the news and found stories of ski warfare happening in real life? Regardless, I like the term “ski warfare.” It’s whimsical.

  • The Pencil Pages - I think I found this through following links on Neocities. I love it. I’m not a pencil collector, but the idea tickles something in my brain.

On the topic of pencils, this is my opportunity to put out a call into the universe for a very specific pencil: a shiny silver pencil with text that said “New Millennium Pencil” on it. “Y2K” was also on the pencil several times, in smaller writing. To my knowledge, it was not branded. A boy stole my New Millennium Pencil in high school, and I’ve been looking for a new one on eBay ever since. Any new leads will earn my reverence for eternity.
