Virtual Potluck: Deviled Eggs
August 16, 2026
I only ever have deviled eggs on holidays. Usually I'm asked to bring, like, bread. So I bring that, and pray to Zurac that someone else is making eggs. Then when I get there, I eat approximately 45 of them and still have room for more.
All of this to say: cooking isn't my favorite activity (I guess that's why they tell me to bring the bread), but I love deviled eggs. Or as I like to call them, yellow pocket angel eggs.
I'd never made them before. A few months ago, divergentrays shared this old-school (and extremely ad-covered) deviled egg website.
And then skep and myrtletribe announced the 2026 virtual potluck. This year's potluck has a yellow theme. So obviously, it was a message from the heavens that I should make deviled eggs.
I decided to follow the Easy Classic Deviled Eggs recipe from the deviled egg site. The filling is just yolks, mayo, mustard, vinegar, salt, pepper. Top with paprika. I didn't actually measure anything. I mean, it's deviled eggs.
My friend recently gave me one of those hard-boiled egg cookers that cooks 7 eggs at once, so I ended up with 14 deviled eggs. (To be honest, I'm probably not going to keep the egg cooker. It works great and I love hard-boiled eggs, but my kitchen is too tiny for hyperspecific cooking gear. I can just make them on my stove.) They disappeared from my fridge very quickly.
Anyway, they were good! And way less tedious than I thought they'd be. I won't hear my sister complain about making them ever again.

The hosts provided (very adorable) badges for people who brought their dish early and met the yellow theme. I am accepting both for my effort:
I'm also awarding myself another badge. It's for people who brought eggs:

Thanks to skep and myrtletribe for hosting!
